FAQ: About Joe Albi Stadium
How many people can the stadium hold?
Joe Albi Stadium can hold just over 26,000 people. The Spokane Arena can hold 10,440 people. Woodward Field holds between 10,000-12,000

When was the stadium completed?
The stadium was completed in September of 1950.

Why do you think a dome will help the stadium?
Putting a dome over the stadium should make it usable year-round, protect the astroturf, and reduce maintenance of the seating area. The stadium also has the potential for being very energy efficient because of its bermed construction.

How can revenue be generated to pay for operating costs?
We believe Joe Albi Stadium has been under promoted, under funded, and burdened with two debt bonds. Actively promoting the stadium and holding more sports activities, recreation-related events, and other events at the stadium could put it in the black. Raising the roof, putting a dome over part or all the stadium, would make the facility usable year-round. Your suggestions are very welcome! Support for the EWU vs Montana football game at Albi Stadium is growing. The 2007 game at Missoula had 24,000 people in attendance. It is planned to be held at Woodward Field in Cheney in 2008.

What has the annual attendance been in the last few years?
2002 - 196,972 (includes the 4-day Franklin Graham Festival with 85,619, GSL soccer with 30,358 and EWU vs Montana at 17,000).
2003 - 98,793 (includes EWU vs MSU with 11,207).
2004 - 107,562 (includes Shadow vs Seattle with 7300)

What does it cost to operate the stadium?
Total operating expenses includes staff, contracts, utilities & phone, repair & maintenance, supplies, taxes (sales, excise, & aquifer), and insurance and miscellaneous interfund & expenses.
2001 - $294,548
2002 - $313,361
2003 - $296,280
2004 - $306,258
2005 - $288,026 (estimated)

How much operating revenues has the stadium generated?
2001 - $212,676
2002 - $285,902
2003 - $180,954
2004 - $192,184
2005 - $180,000 (estimated)

What about the two bonds on Albi Stadium?
The two bonds were issued in 1996 and 2001 (refinanced in 2003). The Albi Stadium portions were $970,000 and $1,350,000 respectively. They were both 10-year bonds. We are not sure yet what repairs & improvements they paid for. The 1996 bond will be retired at the end of 2006! That will leave about $1.15 million from the second bond, or about $170,000 per year until 2013. The cost of the bonds overlap in 2004, 2005, and 2006. Prior to 2003, the 'interest only' on the 2001 bond was paid by the Lodging Tax. After 2003 this source of funds was taken away from Albi Stadium. The final cost of the 1996 bond ($970,000) will be $1,251,927.50 and the final cost of the 2001 (2003) bond ($1,350,000) will be $1,665,598.43 according to city government sources.
